The peak months for the tourist season are January, February and March. In 2006 the season was badly affected by the roadblocks in Argentina, erected in protest against the papermills in Uruguay. In the high season (the first quarter of 2006), the number of tourists coming to Uruguay was 11% down (compared with 2005) at 694,000. The 2006 figures were also affected by the lateness of Easter, which moved Holy Week to April from March in 2005.
